Honey Boo Boo of reality TV fame will be celebrating her sweet sixteen on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Ahead of the big day, Honey Boo Boo, whose real name is Alana Thompson, spoke to Teen Vogue about her life in a feature article that was published on August 25, 2021. In the interview, Honey Boo Boo speaks candidly about the people in her life, including June “Mama June” Shannon, who found herself in trouble with the law following her trouble with drug abuse.
The young reality star confessed that her mother’s struggle with addiction has been “very, very hard” for her and the rest of the family. While speaking to Teen Vogue, Thompson admitted that she wouldn’t want that to happen to anyone.
She confessed, “A lot of folks in this world do not realize how many people are actually really affected by drug and alcohol [use]… It’s something I’d wish on nobody, for real.”
Nevertheless, she has been meeting with her mother to help her get “back on track” so she can return to the person she was before drugs entered the story.
“It’s something I’d wish on nobody, for real,” Alana admitted. “When my mama got real bad with her [drug use], I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I’m proud of myself for how far I’ve come.”
She added, “I want to be the best I can be, and I want to make my money, and I also want to make straight A’s, so I just try my hardest.”
In the years since she was introduced to the world as Honey Boo Boo, Thompson has changed a lot. She now finds herself constantly telling people that she is no longer “little Honey Boo Boo” but has grown up to become a teenager with wants and dreams of her own.
“Just because I’m from the South, people expect me to be all country bumpkin, out riding four-wheelers all the time, but that’s not really how it is,” the reality star said. “But I do not care. As long as I like myself, I’m good.”
Thompson also spoke out about body positivity and how critical some people can be of body types that might not fit into the stereotypical standard of beauty in America.
“I feel like my generation is probably making it worse,” the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum said. “Everybody’s all about body positivity, body positivity until they see a body they don’t like… I don’t understand why people think this way.”
She continued, “Just because I got a little bit of extra meat on my bones, you want to hate me? I’ll never get body shaming.”
Alana Thompson also drew a line in the sand when it comes to her identity now and when she first emerged as Honey Boo Boo and became beloved by reality TV fans across the country.
“They are completely two different people,” she told Teen Vogue. “I would say that I do like this Alana now, rather than the younger Alana.”
